On Friday, 12 January 2024, Guires celebrated Pongal, the Tamil harvest festival of gratitude, with great enthusiasm at our office. The premises were festooned with vibrant colours, marigold garlands and the traditional pongal pot, bringing an authentic flavour of Tamil culture to the workplace.
Colleagues arrived in traditional Tamil attire, sarees and veshtis, adding grace to the festivities and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. The day was filled with traditional activities, from uriyadi to Tamil poetry, and a joyful, spirited mood throughout.
The festivities opened with an exciting uriyadi competition, a game traditionally dominated by men. This year, the women of Guires broke that stereotype and emerged as champions, a proud demonstration of the determination and talent that our women bring to every part of our organisation.
Next, the rangoli competition took centre stage. Teams from across departments put their creativity to the test, and among many vibrant, intricate designs, one team took first prize for its beautifully detailed kolam.
A lively round of musical chairs brought out everyone's competitive spirit, with laughter filling the air as colleagues scrambled for a seat. In keeping with tradition, participants also searched for coins hidden in plates of flour: messy, exhilarating and full of fun, it brought the whole team closer together.
The care our teams put into celebrating together is the same care they bring to every client, every day.
The highlight of the day was a moving Tamil poetry recitation by one of our colleagues, whose voice and depth of feeling transported the audience into the beauty of the verses and earned resounding applause.
Our COO, Dr Radhika Ganesan, spoke about the importance of cultural awareness within the organisation and congratulated the team on building strong bonds and a workplace that cherishes diversity and respect.
Our CEO, Mr Ganesan, thanked colleagues for their hard work and dedication, drawing a parallel between the care and effort that went into the Pongal celebration and the commitment each team member brings every day to our clients' success and to the growth of Guires.
The celebration ended with a group photograph full of smiling faces, a picture of the unity and trust nurtured within the Guires family.
Pongal is a festival of gratitude, and it reminded us of how much we have to be grateful for: talented colleagues, loyal clients and partners who place their trust in us. Guires will continue to value every colleague's background, honour our cultural roots and bring the same passion and integrity to our work that we bring to our celebrations.
